Our History

How we got where we are today

Tekna Packaging is the outgrowth of two decades of experience in the flexible packaging industry. It predecessor, Tekna Structures LLC was formed in 2007 as a joint effort between Michael A. Nixon and Jack A. Thrasher. However, their experience in the packaging business predates that venture by many years.

Jack’s experience in the packaging world began with a supplement company named Labrada Nutrition nearly 20 years ago. Packaging protein supplements for the body building industry, Labrada remains one of Tekna’s key clients.

Mike became associated with Jack in 2004 and, together, they bought the production plant for Jack’s sales base. With domestic production of flexo-printed packaging material from its plant in the US, Tekna Structures also delivered wider web projects as well as premade bags from Jack’s historic relationships with plants in Korea and China. The formation of Tekna Structures in July of 2007 saw expansion of its markets.

Tekna acquired its first pressure sensitive label and narrow web flexographic operation, Tekna Impact (www.tekna-impact.com) in McAllen, Texas in 2008. This operation is focused on supporting the cross-border maquiladora factories in Brownsville/Matamoros and McAllen/Reynosa as well as maquilas located more centrally in Mexico. However, Tekna Impact has clients all over the world from Dubai to Germany as well as the US and Canada.

In 2010, Tekna acquired an offset printing operation, also in McAllen, to meet a wider range of its client’s printing needs. By producing flyers, manuals and product inserts, Tekna’s printing capabilities span a majority of the items a business routinely requires printed.

Its latest expansion, Tekna Printing – Greenville was initiated in 2013 and will form an East Coast compliment to its Texas-based production facilities, providing timely production and delivery to clients in and around the Greenville industrial center.
